I had ads again!

I lost my Nuffnang codes for ads when I changed my blog template to black this year. Took some time for me to insert the codes back because my html template is kinda tricky but now its soooo baaaaaaack!

In case you were wondering, I'm not really earning or expect to earn anything from the ads since I'm not a serious blogger. They're just pretty =D

Directions to Ilog Maria

I'm sure you've all heard of Ilog Maria. It's that lip balm, hair oil, shampoo or soap made out of honey extracts which your friends swear by.  I first heard about it in 2006 when my kikay boss excitedly told me she just came from a secret bee farm and went home with winner all-natural skin care products. Looking back, I've no idea why that information was shared to me but it did keep me wondering about the place and the products (and the name). Fast forward to 2011 and I finally had my chance to visit the farm(talk about a 5 year path-to-purchase journey).

I kinda knew that the dirt road leading to the farm was supposedly a few meters after turning right on the Tagaytay rotunda. Some people say its 1 or 2 km after Gourmet's Cafe. Another blog said it was right on KM47. Ok ok ok so many leads from different sources but Gelo and I got lost and had to go around 3 times before we realized we haven't even reached the supposed dirt road. Cruising down slowly on the highway, I was looking for some kind of "dirt road" that was really "dirt" - like  something only a 4x4 would only dare to go. Here was how we finally found it:

1.) From Sta. Rosa, turn right on Tagaytay rotunda
2.) pass Gourmet's Cafe, Station, Iglesia ni Cristo and Unioil on the right
3.) pass Petron on the left
4.) Watch out for a Blue signage with Ilog Maria written on it in Yellow (approximately 10 mins from Rotunda while driving at 50kph)
5.) Follow the dirt road (it'll fit most cars, unless you're driving those huge Ford SUV types). The road is supposedly one way on weekends so no need to worry about incoming traffic. Maybe except for motorcycles or livestock.
6.) Upon reaching a small clearing, go inside the open grey gate passing the black iron gate to your left which says "exit".
Welcome to Ilog Maria! Happy Shopping!

One last thing. If visiting the farm is not your thing but you still want to shop, you can buy their products online. See the complete Ilog Maria product range here and download the official map (in word doc).

Politics and Pepsi

Last Sept 2, Pnoy made witty remarks about his love live(or lack thereof) by comparing it to Coke variants - Coke (regular), Coke Light and and Coke Zero.

read the full article here: http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=722875&publicationSubCategoryId=63
While every Juan laughed this off (with Coke giddy from the unprompted endorsement), the brand team over at Pepsi didn't take it so lightly (as in Coke Light-ly haha!) and supposedly released this to counter Coke's PR:

Just when I thought it was all over, let the Colar wars begin! O RC, got anything to say?

Beauty Queens on Acid

Stumbled upon the Miss Universe promos on Youtube this morning. Either the producers took the Carnival treatment too far or everyone in Sao Paolo is tripping acid. This certainly isn't the usual pageant promo. Ola Brasil!

Here's one with the reigning Miss Universe, Ximena Navarrete

Since I can't have coffee

Since I'm giving up coffee for Lent, I'll just have to settle for coffee-flavored mints.

Found VerMints in Candy Corner. Each case sells for P180+ and comes in three flavors - Coffee, Green Tea and Ginger Mint.

All by Myself - Pia vs Latoya

Since I'm watching Idol again(after skipping two boring seasons) I thought I'd do the Cover Vs entries again just for fun. Let's start with this season's Pia Toscano singing All by Myself.

VS

Now lets hear season 3's Latoya London

What do you think? Pia looks like she's having a hard time belting while Latoya does it effortlessly. Presentation-wise though Pia's got the goods so maybe it really doesn't matter if she gets pitchy every now and then. Anyway, singing-wise I don't think anybody can ever top Latoya's version. This round goes to the sister! Ding!

Camouflage at work

Ever wondered whether military camouflage is effective outside the jungle? Well, I sure fell for the optical illusion driving beside a military jeep some days ago.

Its that time of the year again

I gave up pretending not to eat meat as a Lenten sacrifice years ago. I always forget to abstain anyway and only remember after I've licked the gravy off the last piece of KFC chicken. So for the third year now, I will be substituting meat with a much more harder sacrifice.

In 2009, it was dessert
In 2010, it was dessert and coffee
This year, it'll be dessert, coffee and ...

Alcohol!

I think this year will be the hardest one yet =p Wish me luck!

J. Lo's Lambada comeback

J. Lo sealed her comeback last week when she launched her On the Floor music video on American Idol. I didn't really like the song the first time around but I have to admit the track grows on you - especially the Lambada melody. And even if its an old tune, majority of the partyphiles today weren't even born during the Lambada controversy in the 90s. As J. Lo's says in her opening "Its a new generation of party people". Oh yes. She knows she's of age (but damn she can still rock it at 41) - that probably means I'm of age too because of the 90s reference(but yes I too can still rock it haha)

And for you reference, here is the original Lambada.

---
By the way is Electronica or Dance now the comeback genre? With more and more mainstream artists jumping on the dancefloor with DJs spinning for them, are the days of anonymous females vocals singing to tigz tigz numbered? Think Kelly Rowland and David Guetta(Commander, When Love Takes Over), Britney and Tiesto (Hold it Against Me), Madonna in 2005 (Confessions on a Dance Floor) and now Miss J. to the Lo.

Sitsereya of the day: Chick N' joy

Ah yes. Another day, another food discovery here at the Port office. I can't tell what's worse, the name or the fake Aga. Anyone care to my sitsereya?

Yes. I was born this way baby

This has got to be the most unapologetic (but inspirational!) song I've ever heard. 15 years too late though (came out when I was 17) but definitely strikes a chord. So what if society, your family, your judgemental friends, the government, the church says otherwise. You were born this way baby. Own it!

Intro:

It doesn't matter if you love him, or capital H-I-M
Just put your paws up
’cause you were Born This Way, Baby

VERSE:
MY MAMA TOLD ME WHEN I WAS YOUNG
WE ARE ALL BORN SUPERSTARS

SHE ROLLED MY HAIR AND PUT MY LIPSTICK ON
IN THE GLASS OF HER BOUDOIR

"THERE'S NOTHIN WRONG WITH LOVIN WHO YOU ARE"
SHE SAID, "'CAUSE HE MADE YOU PERFECT, BABE"

"SO HOLD YOUR HEAD UP GIRL AND YOU'LL GO FAR,
LISTEN TO ME WHEN I SAY"

CHORUS:
I'M BEAUTIFUL IN MY WAY
'CAUSE GOD MAKES NO MISTAKES
I'M ON THE RIGHT TRACK BABY
I WAS BORN THIS WAY

DON'T HIDE YOURSELF IN REGRET
JUST LOVE YOURSELF AND YOU'RE SET
I'M ON THE RIGHT TRACK BABY
I WAS BORN THIS WAY

POST-CHORUS:
OOO THERE AIN'T NO OTHER WAY
BABY I WAS BORN THIS WAY
BABY I WAS BORN THIS WAY
OOO THERE AIN'T NO OTHER WAY
BABY I WAS BORN-
I'M ON THE RIGHT TRACK BABY
I WAS BORN THIS WAY

DON'T BE A DRAG -JUST BE A QUEEN
DON'T BE A DRAG -JUST BE A QUEEN
DON'T BE A DRAG -JUST BE A QUEEN
DON'T BE!

VERSE:
GIVE YOURSELF PRUDENCE
AND LOVE YOUR FRIENDS
SUBWAY KID, REJOICE YOUR TRUTH

IN THE RELIGION OF THE INSECURE
I MUST BE MYSELF, RESPECT MY YOUTH

A DIFFERENT LOVER IS NOT A SIN
BELIEVE CAPITAL H-I-M (HEY HEY HEY)
I LOVE MY LIFE I LOVE THIS RECORD AND
MI AMORE VOLE FE YAH (LOVE NEEDS FAITH)

REPEAT CHORUS + POST-CHORUS

BRIDGE:

DON'T BE A DRAG, JUST BE A QUEEN
WHETHER YOU'RE BROKE OR EVERGREEN
YOU'RE BLACK, WHITE, BEIGE, CHOLA DESCENT
YOU'RE LEBANESE, YOU'RE ORIENT
WHETHER LIFE'S DISABILITIES
LEFT YOU OUTCAST, BULLIED, OR TEASED
REJOICE AND LOVE YOURSELF TODAY
'CAUSE BABY YOU WERE BORN THIS WAY

NO MATTER GAY, STRAIGHT, OR BI,
LESBIAN, TRANSGENDERED LIFE
I'M ON THE RIGHT TRACK BABY
I WAS BORN TO SURVIVE
NO MATTER BLACK, WHITE OR BEIGE
CHOLA OR ORIENT MADE
I'M ON THE RIGHT TRACK BABY
I WAS BORN TO BE BRAVE

REPEAT CHORUS

OUTRO/REFRAIN:

I WAS BORN THIS WAY HEY!
I WAS BORN THIS WAY HEY!
I'M ON THE RIGHT TRACK BABY
I WAS BORN THIS WAY HEY!

I WAS BORN THIS WAY HEY!
I WAS BORN THIS WAY HEY!
I'M ON THE RIGHT TRACK BABY
I WAS BORN THIS WAY HEY!

Lost my mojo to D'OH

Why do I seriously feel I'm getting dumber?

Is it because...

I've stopped over thinking and over analyzing the state of things the past couple of months?
I stopped reading about regional digital strategies and campaigns?
I've shifted my learning curve from discovering digital to directly applying digital?
My day to day role requires little strategy?
I don't have client briefs to crack?
I've lost my sense of wonder therefore stopped asking questions?
I haven't seen any stimulating movies lately?
I have not had a philosophical debate/discussion in a while?

Oh well, whatever the hell this is I better act fast. I seriously want my mojo back

Pick-me-up song of the week: Firework

Ok so for those who have heard this song a million times and think its getting baduy, forget the music and read the lyrics:

You don't have to feel like a waste of space
You're original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane comes a rainbow

Fine. Lyrics aren't that deep either but you gotta admit the beat is catchy. And sometimes, when you allow yourself to forget how cynical and sarcastic you already are, be shallow for one moment and let the song fill you up. Remember, being happy doesn't always mean being complicated.

Boom, boom, booom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon

PS. Don't you think the video is very Heroes. Either that or Katy Perry loves Dazzler/Jubilee

PPS. One of my friends caught her husband dancing to this tune all by himself in the bedroom (complete with air punches). Bravo Katy Perry!

Brand Camp: Blamestorming

Ever been to those multi-team meetings where you knew you'd be fried but still go anyway? A couple of companies and positions ago, I had to attend this monthly meeting organized by Customer Service. It was their regular Operations Report but required Brand Managers to answer any brand/product concerns they might have. Every meeting without fail, whenever one particular KPI(Key Performance Indicator) was down (and one or more usually was), the reason would always be about why Marketing didn't do this or how Marketing didn't do it right or how the campaign should be changed etc etc Because, supposedly, I knew a lot of people from Customer Service, I was the appointed one to attend in behalf of the whole Marketing team (Hmm come to think of it now, pakshet kayo lahat :P). I would always sit at the last row of the room (there were about 40 attendees) and every time a brand or product concern would come up everyone would face back and look at me. Argh. Believe it or not, even with that situation, I was still considered lucky. When it'd be just the bosses meeting for the same thing they, most often than not, end up shouting.

Sigh corporate life. I so don't miss you. So far so good in the world of Publishing! =D

3 resolutions for 2011

This year I only want to focus on three resolutions:

I make this resolution every time I feel I lack intellectual stimulation (and also when I feel I'm falling behind my English). There's nothing like a good book to kickstart good old fashioned Wonder. Some books I saw in Fullybooked earlier were Heidegger and a Hippo Walk Through Those Pearly Gates: Using Philosophy (and Jokes!) to Explore Life, Death, the Afterlife, and Everything in Between and SuperFreakonomicsGeekdom, your bear has returned hyuk hyuk hyuk.

Write more
If you noticed this blog experienced a drought of entries in 2010. Let's just say there were too many changes in my life last year which were too serious to write about. Also, I refocused all my energies towards Twitter. You have to admit spontaneous micro-blogging in 140 characters is a lot easier than composing a real blog entry. But but but this year i promise to blog again!!! Time to compose thoughts again beyond the 140 character limit.

Save more
As in SM Save More (blech). No need to explain this. I'm not getting any younger. Need to start preparing for my retirement.

So there. I think having realistic resolutions are attainable resolutions. If you wana go corporate on this, think SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely). Nothing like "loose 20 pounds by summer" or "quit meat". Anyway wish me luck! =D
