Shayne, James and Bong

Count on Shayne to always be game for a drink - even if its multiple shots of vodka and gin poured on a plunger-esque device. Check out her reaction in the end. IDOL!

Ganun Shayne ha. Ako nga...

While Shayne had an all vodka drink, I actually had a beer(Manila Beer - walang sabit!) and vodka mix.  "Eto sir panlalake", the bartender said. Hmmmmmmmmmm. Kaya pala.

Drink at your own risk

Its been a while since I posted ridiculous signs, I saw this yesterday on the bathroom door of my future office.

This is in the same league as MMDA's pedestrian sign " Bawal Tumawid. Nakakamatay" and "Bawal tumawid. May namatay na dito"

Furniture lust

This entry has been sitting in my drafts folder since 2008. Cut to 2 years later, the only thing I got from the list of items below was the table. Posting this now for Joanne =)

Some people have shoe lust, others have bags. Mine is furniture! Believe it or not I lie awake some nights thinking about my dream chair (or chairs or sofas). Ahh lounge chair. You will be mine someday.

BrandCamp: After the Brainstorm

Some brainstorms are even lucky to get to this stage. Some kill joy participants crush the idea during post-it stage pa lang. Hnh. I kinda miss brainstorming though. Such creativity wasted on lack of practicality (aka budget hehe)

Signs are what you interpret them to be.

dated: June 1, 2010

This morning, looking up at the cloudy gray sky, I wondered how much longer till I get better. I can't go on sulking about this one particular moment of my life when I've been Being for 32 years now. Good things must have happened to me right? No. A LOT of WONDERFUL must have happened  - and this was how I got the idea of starting this blog. So I can put together every happy memory that life has given me.

"Cool", I thought. I smiled. The sun came out.

Imelda Inspires David Byrne and Fat Boy Slim

Say what?

I know.

That was my reaction too. Anyway, before any else, watch the video below. I knew Imelda was influential but it kinda strikes a chord when you see her with legendary figures like Castro and Mao. Hmm now that I've mention it, the video is so Evita and her Rainbow Tour.

The second video explains the story behind the inspiration. Thanks David Byrne and Fat Boy for putting the spotlight on the Philippines again. After all, Imelda was supposedly the most famous Filipino until Pacquiao came along.

Goodbye Pink!

Finally! After years of driving by tacky and awful pink structures along EDSA, the MMDA has chosen a new color: green. Its supposedly a part of the MMDA Metro Green Project but I hope this one sticks even after the project's done.  Come to think of it, "greening" Metro Manila will take a whole lifetime.  Anyway, the new color definitely is a welcome change. Next on my wishlist, taking down all the ugly billboards.

Knock knock

Today I had a long interesting overseas conversation with an industry peer about a potential opportunity. You know what they say, never turn down an opportunity especially if their knock sounds like "ka-ching! ka-ching!". I'm secretly crossing my fingers, toes and butt that I get to continue the conversation.  If not, well it was a good try :)

Who wouldn't enjoy taking a bath when your shower looks like this:

Kohler new K-8030 WaterTile Rain overhead showering panel

Sounds weird but it was always my dream to have a huge rain showerhead  in my bathroom(a shower panel would also be nice :)). Of course theres always bathing in the rain but obviously I can't do that anymore.

1.) I'm a 30+ year old man
2.) Manila rain = acid rain = drinking pasig river water
3.) When I was a kid, my yaya used to tell me not to get myself wet in rainwater or else I'll become a crazy person (if I had learned to say "weh" before then I would said it...WEH?!)

Going back to showers, this is also nice. Tara ligo tayo.

My New Coffee

Since I've given up coffee for Lent (along with desserts) I've been rediscovering my love for tea.

Yesterday, I think I had 8 mugs worth of Twinings Green Tea. That just might be the reason why I was so calm and collected despite the Monday chaos going on around me haha

Tea is supposedly more healthy right? Well, as I remember a Hong Kong tour guide tell me before  that "tea was the secret to why Chinese people are so slim"....umm yeah right. C'mon Green Tea! Work with me hahaha

All you need to surf is...a TV?

I've got to hand it to SMART for launching this innovation. For people like me who are excited about spreading the digital revolution, this is HUGE. Just imagine, TV penetration in the Philippines is more than 90% compared to Internet penetration which is about 25%. Marry the two together and consider the falling costs of mobile data and 3G/Wi-Fi handsets and the days of internet cafes might just be over. Dare I say in the next 5 years?

Of course, this new smart product will take a couple of months before it reaches its masa-friendly price. I assume the surfing experience will the remain the same (unpredictable and sucky most of the time). I also wonder how the resolution will look like given the RCA converter. Will it work better on an HD TV? hahahaha

You think Lola Techie really knows her online stuff? This is what really happened hahaha

The real "level-up" pizza box

If you've been watching a lot of American Idol these days I'm sure you've seen the Greenwich Pizza "level-up" commercials. Aside from the "level-up" situations, it also promotes the new pizza box design. If only the Greenwich guys  saw this video first then it would really be a level-up.

Literal Corporate Cliches

We've all heard the corporate cliches trickled down to us by corporate America and from the long list, we've grown accustomed to using some (let's park this) and hating some (lets table this).

Recently I stumbled upon the results of a British survey about the most annoying office jargon (complete article here) and I remembered that Pau and I had a special shots in Thailand with the same theme. Can you guess which cliche goes with the image?

lets cross the bridge when we get there

Lusting for a mini that tells you where to go

So, you think the N97 was all that? Check out the mini version below. Sometimes videos like these activate my gadget lust more than 30 second tv commercials.

Still not convinced? Maybe this Navigation video will change your mind. This is free locally covering a whole range of models. I've tried it on my N86. It feels so high-tech haha.

My mouse path for the day

Have you ever wondered where your cursor goes? This was how I navigated my screen from 10am to 745pm. The dark areas represent the amount of time my mouse lingered at that space on my screen hyuk hyuk hyuk.

Wana try it for yourself. Download the software here.

BrandCamp: 6 Types of Ideas

Interesting. I can't say I've done them all but I wonder if the Phoenix type really exists. Are there any brave marketers out there willing to sacrifice resources to "fail fast in order to succeed"?  If there are then I wana be your friend =D

On the Eureka type, I find most of my ideas coming to me minutes before I fall asleep. Certainly not in the shower and definitely not in the loo (I know some people get great ideas while taking a crap). It can be frustrating for me sometimes because your mind is super active and you tell yourself you'll keep it in your head. Sometimes, just to get it out of my head, I type in a draft SMS and send it first thing in the morning (that way they'll be like "galing! pinagisipan mo talaga all night!"

Collective and Peace Treaty might just be the opposite of Eureka. Your idea, if the group collectively agrees to it, becomes the idea of the whole group. Good or bad. If its a good idea the whole group parties, if it turns out to be bad, they blame it all on you (lazy shitheads).

Well, whatever the type of idea you come up with, it's always good to have a mental challenge. The worst thing you can do to yourself is give up on creativity.

Loving the Havaianas box

Super delayed post.

After deliberately staying away from Havaianas the past couple of years, I finally got my first pair while in Boracay right before the new year.  Honestly, I don't see the point of regular Havs (because it really looks and feels like regular tsinelas) compared to Flojos (winner texture) or Dopies (weird design and comfort). The only reason why I got em was because I needed an extra pair (having brought only my Flojos).

Anyway, enough with the defensiveness. This post is actually about the box and not the product (weh!). Check this out.

Unassuming box for tsinelas

BATH WAIT! was dat sign???

Call me a packaging sucker but I loved it :)

BrandCamp:The Career Trapeze

Career leap of faith...tell me about it. Sometimes you really just have to throw all your cares to the wind and jump. Can't say I've always landed on my feet but I think I've gotten the hang of it. No biggie really. It would have been 3 years now since I last jumped. I can feel the itch coming.

10 lessons for 2010 (part 1)

2009 was a BANG (sorry I couldn't think of any other word so BANG is open to interpretation) and just to close the book, here are 10 lessons I've learned this year which shouldn't be forgotten in 2010.

1.) Always find ways to stimulate your intellect.
Yes everyday work and life challanges may be stimulating but nothing beats the satisfaction of stripping an object bare of the obvious and wasting time inventing life lessons worth tweeting about. This should only be done in small doses though. If this becomes part of your everyday life (like work) then quit before you get brain fried.

Quick fixes: Read a book. Watch a documentary. Appreciate art.

2.) Be appreciative of those who matter.
It doesn't have to be about saying Thank You a million times or about giving  an expensive gift.. Its about the small gestures that mean more - letting him get ahead in line, making his bed, letting him have the bigger Spam slice, listening to him patiently rant about work, etc...

Quick fixes: Share your lunch. Appreciate his outfit. Offer a toast.

3.) Believe I'm truly am good at something.
There are those who say I'm good at something and there are stuff I know I'm truly good at...well, I think meron naman...I just need to find out what that is. Believe. Believe. Believe.

Quick fix: Look at resume =p

4.) Be more thorough.
I used to be known for my attention to detail but somehow I lost that along the way. Being too results oriented does have its disadvantages. They say beauty is in the details. Or was it the devil is in the details? Anyhow, I'll take them both and say that the devil finds beauty in the details haha

Quick fix: Finish a crossword puzzle.

5.) People don't bite. Don't be afraid to get to know them.
Let it be known that I am cliquish. Always was and always will be. It takes sooo much effort for me to engage in casual conversation just to find common ground in a random situation. Of course if you've met me through a meeting, conference or concert it'd be different because we have a common currency to trade. Social lubricant is always necessary for me to turn into a sociala bear (I don't want to be a social butterfly).

Quick fix: Chat with YM contacts you've forgotten about.

to be continued =D
