Can't Stop the weekend

Time for my Friday party music post!

Its funny how some Micheal Jackson lyrics end up being used as parts of another song. I can only think of two now like SWV's Right Here Human Nature and Rihanna's Dont Stop the Music but I'm sure there are tons more out there. Its kinda a cheat for the cover artist I think because the song is partly memorable more for the Micheal Jackson lyrics (whether ya ya or mamase mamasa) than the real chorus. Anyway, here's another song which does that. The chosen MJ track covered was Can't Stop. Enjoy!

Cant Stop (eSQUIRE Remix) - Jason Phats Feat Ben Ofoedu

Nice but Man in the Mirror club mix is still my fave! (If you haven't heard it here's the link to my Multiply post with the track).

Weekend track

Here's Estelle's American Boy Soul Seekerz Club Mix from the newly released The Mix 2009. Enjoy!

American Boy (Soul Seekerz Club mix) - Estelle featuring Kanye West

hedkandi men

I think this is the first time I'm seeing men in any hedkandi art. I wonder if they've ever considered replacing the kandi girl covers with kandi men.

How to purchase Hangad stuff outside Manila

Where can I buy Hangad CDs and Songbooks?

I've probably been asked this question a million times through email, multiply, blogspot or after random singing engagements. The usual answers of course are 1) Tanging Yaman outlets, 2) St. Paul's outlets, 3) House of Praise kiosks and 4) maybe Jesuit Parishes. If you're lucky to catch a Hangad or JesCom show, you'll also find CDs there but that's IF you're lucky =)

OK. But I live in Pampanga, Iloilo, Davao, California, Singapore or Qatar?

NOW It doesn't matter where you're from to get a copy of Hangad's music because the JESUIT COMMUNICATIONS ONLINE STORE is open for business! All you need is your best friend aka Visa/Mastercard or JCB and a reliable internet connection. A few clicks and magic! Hangad on demand!(this has got to be the cheesiest piece of copy I've every written haha =p)

Seriously people, do check out the new Online Store. It works. I promise =) Its the easiest way to get your copy of the new Hangad Noon at Ngayon CD if you don't have it yet =)

Make Santa Stop! Please!

This greeted me first thing in the office today. Once Santa pops he just cant stop! Someone save him please!!!!

frohe Weihnachten!

So what else does supermodel Heidi Klum do aside from Project Runway, Germany's Next Top Model, Birkenstock(they have a Heidi line) and Victoria's Secret?

Jingle Bells - Heidi Klum

Vanderland! Vanderland! Shining stars! Jingle Bells!

Speaking of models and Christmas, here (again) is Janice Dickinson with her version of 12 Days of Christmas.

moonbathing 11.16.08

Its been awhile since I last looked at the moon and almost a year to be exact since I last went moonbathing. If it wasn't for Gelo's breathtaking moon post a couple of weeks ago I'd have forgotten this weird yet calming pastime of mine. Here's how she looks tonight captured through Samsung Innov8. Isn't she beautiful?

Find out how I got started with moonbathing here.

My possibility of winning

Talk about unexpected rewards. Today I got my very first (and hopefully not the last) career-related award! (Clap! Clap! Pat on the back!) Who would have thought? I definitely didn't see this coming. It wasn't anything I set my mind on and definitely not something I nominated myself for. I thought my work output was great and deserved some type of compensation but not as big as winning the annual excellence award (that's not the name of the award but that's kinda the description). Seriously. No false modesty here.

Ok ok. Why make such negative fuss on a good thing right? I should just shut up, stand up and be proud of myself. I'm not complaining mind you. Its just hard for me to convince myself that I deserve such a thing. I guess when you've been surrounded all your life by friends who are 10x more of the achiever than you are, it's hard to think that you too can have the possibility of succeeding anything. Tsk tsk tsk I smell very old issues resurfacing. I really don't know why sometimes I continue to belittle myself despite what I've become and achieved. I should have taken Pau's offer back in college to be hypnotized by Tony Perez in order to solve my self-esteem issues haha.

Getting over Paradise

You know how sometimes one weekend can take months to get over? Its amazing how a couple hours of good vibes can last. This, my friend, is called Paradise. Well, at least according to Leonardo di Caprio in the junkie movie The Beach:

"i still believe in paradise
but now at least i know it's not some place you can look for
cause it's not where you go
it's how you feel for a moment in your life
and if you find that moment it lasts forever"

Beached - Angelo Badalamenti

Uh oh. Sounds like someone's been partying like he's in his 20s again. Give him a 30's doze of reality quick! Think bills, mortgage, economy, politics...

Thanks Cham for producing evidence haha

Party on-demand 24/7

I know this isn't exactly new news. Been listening to it for quite some time now but I thought I'd share this with you guys just in case you don't know about it yet.

If you just can't seem to get enough thumpa thumpa in your week tune in to 107.9 - the Philippines first and only 24/7 underground club radio. As its write-up says:

"
We are U-Radio 107.9FM broadcasting ilegally from an undisclosed location at the very top of the FM band. We are maintained and Operated by Brainstone Broadcasting Inc. We are Philippines's first and only Pirate FM Radio station. We have no DJ's. Our station runs on a automated pre-programed playlist system to give Metro Manila pure unadulterated club music 24/7! So what are you all waiting for? If your in the Metro tune-in to 107.9MHz FM now!!! "

Usually 107.9 only registers when I'm in the car. The signal's too weak for my mobile phone or mp3 player when im in the office but...surprise! suprise! I just found out they have streaming as well. Here's the link. Enjoy!

What if you could vote?

Its hard not to care about the US Elections. In CNN that's ALL they talk about (compared to BBC whose world does not revolve around America). As apathetic as I am to politics in general, I have to admit that tommorow is a global event and whether I like it or not, I will be affected by its outcome in one way or another. It'll be like watching the American Idol finals haha.

So what if you had say and could actually vote? Join the Global survey in IF THE WORLD COULD VOTE. As of last count the Philippines was 80% for Obama =). They should do this in the next national election.

mochi mochi anone

As a sucker for desserts, especially cold desserts (yep some desserts are served hot) mochi balls for me rank high up there with frozen brazo de mercedes (Sweet Surrender by Ange! is to die for) and silvanas (secret Cebu silvanas!).

For those who haven't tasted mochi balls yet, imagine a small thin siopao bursting in ice cream filling...heaven. Bite em hot but eat em cold. I tell you, its an foodie experience.
Leave me a trail of mochi balls and you'll sure to find me following any moment haha.

I don't know yet if any brand is trying to mass produce the items locally (Nestle? yuck) but mochi balls are usually available at your local Japanese or Korean grocery (for around P40-P50 for 2 pieces). However if you're in Singapore, you HAVE to check out this stall at the Taka food court...MOCHI HEAVEN!!! Wish there was a way to freeze them so they could survive the three hour flight =( Buti na rin I guess because I would have horded dozens of these everytime haha

From an anti-Hangad listener

I was greeted this morning by a post from the Hangad Discussion Boards Louis (aka Hangad Web Admin) copied and sent to the group:

"Honestly, I never really liked Hangad's singing style... I find it a little too show-ish for my taste. I prefer the simplicity of Bukas Palad and Himig Heswita. A friend of mine gave me a copy of this CD as a gift. At first, I wasn't really that thrilled, to be honest. Played it over my laptop and just let it ring in the background while I work on some office stuff (read Boring work). Couple of tracks have played and gone... I thought it was another "usual" Hangad CD - until I heard a very sweet soprano voice singing Maging Akin Muli. Can't remember exactly what happened but I knew I dropped whatever I was doing and listened to Maging Aking Muli - over and over. The rendition has perfectly lived its ultimate goal: to proclaim God's words (effectively). I find myself listening to this song everyday, especially when I get too stressed out with work. This song is my numero uno stress-release tool! Smiley

This is my first account to any choral message board and my very first post. I did this only to thank you guys. I hope you continue to do what you do: inspire and get people like me closer to God.

Special thanks to Mariel (I just learned that you were the one who sang this magical song)! Smiley God Bless Hangad. =)

I am still a Bukas Palad and Himig Heswita fanatic. But Maging Akin Muli of Hangad holds a special place in my heart... Smiley "

Sometimes the magic of Hangad's music really amazes me. Who cares if this guy doesn't prefer Hangad or does not like Hangad at all? This is exactly the difference between show business and ministry. The point isn't to be adored and be made a fan of but to be affected and inspired. As long as there are people who continue to be moved by our music then I guess we don't have a reason to stop singing. I wana find this guy and give him a great big bearhug! =)
