Idol Showdown: Nadia vs Stephanie vs Ramiele

I don't really understant why this song is popular with the finalists. Bagong Kampeon-ish classic birit song =p Here are Nadia Turner (Season 4), Stephanie Edwards (Season 6) and Ramiele Malubay (Season 7).

Idol Showdown: Vonzell vs Ramiele

I thought Diana Degarmo covered this also. Or was it On the Radio?

Vonzel Solomon (Season 4) wins this for me. Ramiele looked kinda bored and after her clip about dancing, I thought she'd be discoing around the stage with this fast song.

Dance Elmo! Dance!

Something fun to start the weekend. Click on the image to make Elmo dance!
Thanks Jeanie for the site =)

Idol Showdown: Jennifer vs David

The song that got Jennifer Hudson eliminated from American Idol the first time in Season 3. If you're a new fan of the show, this was a time when the rules were different and idol "wildcards" were selected by the judges for another shot at the final 12 (of course we all know she made it the 2nd time and then got booted out again for singing Circle of Life...Now she has an Oscar and stars opposite Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex and the City...)

On the other hand here's David (insert screaming fans here), this season's teeny bopper heartthrob. Certainly an upgrade from Kevin Covais (Chicken Little/Season 5) and John Stevens(Archie Andrews/Season 3). He sang Dreamgirls when he was 11. What does that tell you? Hmmm.... Like his version of "Imagine" though. Makes me wish I had a higher singing range =(

Idol Showdown:Latoya vs Jasmine vs Gina vs Asia'h

Seems like American Idol hopefuls just cant get enough of the diva song "All By Myself". Here's Latoya London (Season 3), Jasmine Trias (Season 3), Gina Glocksen(Season 6) and Asiah Epperson(Season 7). Latoya bring's home the prize for me. JawdroppingAWESOME!!!

Anybody know a good electric pre-shave solution?

Help! Does anyone know of an electric pre-shave solution aside from Anthony Logistics For Men? I just finished my bottle of solution (after a year of use! In fairness to the 4oz bottle) and I can't find the brand in Beauty bar anymore...No I don't regularly shop in Beautybar. I was looking for Kris Kringle gifts and stumbled upon the product by accident. Being the sucker that I am for Male-oriented facial care products, the "Logistics for Men" branding very easily spoke to my wallet (as Pau would put it "na-marketing ako"). Anyway, I can't seem to find any other brand that carries a similar product. They all have pre-shaving creams, gels or emulsions but not for electric shaver users. I need something which "creates slip so that razor glides over skin and doesn't tug." Seriously, if you know of any brand that delivers this benefit (thats not alcohol, lotion or lubricant!), let me know.

One thing I've always loved doing is to people watch. Nothing beats being happily settled in a cozy nook, armed with your Im-doing-something-meaningful-equipment and getting lost in it all for at least an hour. By "equipment" I'm referring to whatever item you can hide from in public to not look like you've been stood up or waiting for an EB(eyeball...eww.EB is so IRC days. Is the word still even in use?). The default equipment I have is my laptop. Perfect excuse to look busy even when I'm just playing Garden Defense(Oh and its useful for business too!) It can also be an interesting book or a handheld device like iPod or PDA...Speaking of getting busy with a PDA, I once had a boss who did nothing but tinker with her Blackberry during meetings. I almost thought she was the busiest boss in the world until I caught her just playing Solitaire with it =p. So much for her "I'm so busy" crap.

Anyway, Starbucks 6750 is my favorite place in to world to look hang out and people watch (Well to be honest its actually Boracay, but its not a place I get to go everyday). If you're familiar with this Starbucks branch, there a table on the second floor facing entrance. Not only is this table perfect because it has an power outlet(my laptop battery power sucks) but you get to see who comes in and who goes out. Much like in a club when you don't find anyone inside interesting so you hang out facing the door too see if anyone worth hitting on comes in. Umm, I just heard that's how it goes in those kind of places =p. Oh, and did I mention that Starbucks branch is full of eye candy? That says it all. End of story haha

One of the joys of people watching for me, is that, strangely, I find it an intellectually stimulating activity. Sometimes, I find myself more productive in a dynamic environment rather than looking up from my computer and seeing the same office walls. I think I can remember a couple of great presentations I finished outside the office.

The activity is also an exercise in stepping back and appreciating the world outside you. For writers, actors and artists its a basis for artistic output. For psychologists, its an exercise in science. For strategists(ehem!), its a required skill. So you see, its not just for fun, it pays the bills too.

Am I the only one guilty of this activity? Hope not because it were just me then it means I'm the only voyeur in the world =p

Juno's Anyone Else But You (happy song of the moment)

If you're a Juno fan, you probably remember the duet Ellen Page and Michael Cera sang just before the credits. "Anyone Else But You" from the Juno soundtrack is my Happy Song of the Moment (posted at the right hand column of my blog below the barfing bear picture -- you can't see it if you're reading this entry in Multiply. Click here to go to my real blog). I think I have a thing for weird happy songs or happy songs for weirdos =p Anyway, here's the original track from Moldy Peaches:

Too bad Juno omitted this part, this is actually the cutest lyric:
Up up down down left right left right B A start
Just because we use cheats doesn't mean we're not smart
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else
But you

Hope its another asian in the American Idol top 12 this year! Go Ramiele!(definitely better than Jasmine) But please! No more old slow songs =p

Earth-shaking Weener

Want to know the real reason for earthquakes? A PDI article posted today talks about how an Israeli ultra-Orthodox MP blames homosexuals for tectonic movements.

"God says you shake your genitals where you are not supposed to and I will shake my world in order to wake you up"

Read the article here.

Cherish (all male version)

Take 2 on the Cherish all male performance for Rose's wedding (minus Swapee =( ). Actually had Ivy take a video of this(which explains the very audible laugh and cheers) but something happened to the file when I converted it from mp4 to mpeg. Lost! At least I saved the audio. Enjoy!

Marian, Maja, Heart and....MADONNA?

What were the Unilever guys thinking when they cast Marian, Maja and Heart opposite Madonna? I don't know about you but I find it VERY UPSETTING how these local celebrities are compared to her as if they're on the same level. I'm not saying they're no good. Marian, Maja and Heart have their own strengths but, to be elevated to someone as iconic as Madonna? Cmon! Did Madonna know her Sunsilk endorsement was going to be translated into local campaigns when she signed the global contract? Someone tell her now please! What's next? A Sunsilk sponsored segment in her rumored July concert here? Noooooooo!

Oh and in case you didn't notice, Marilyn Monroe(as well as Shakira in the global version) are in the campign. I also don't see the connection there but whatever.

Calling all ACMGers!

When you confirm your attendance, please include your name, contact details, and the plate number of the car you are using on March 9. These details will be submitted to the Security Personnel of the Ateneo and a guest list will be given to the guards. Only those whose names and plate numbers will appear on the guest list will be allowed to enter the campus on the said date.

Lovin Plain Ol Butter Pecan Me

Caution. Certain cheeziness ahead. Who would have know that a graphic novel would inspire me to write about love?

"But that's why ice cream stores don't just sell chocolate and vanilla. Every once in awhile, someone walks in and orders butter pecan." - Elongated Man, Identity Crisis, DC Comics

Isn't it amazing that even if society pushes for its concept of the ideal partner, you still end up with someone who loves you "just the way you are?" [cue music. Billy Joel...Dont go changing to try and please me =p). We've been programmed to be the "perfect catch", the "soul mate", the "missing piece of the puzzle" that sometimes we actually believe we are not deserving if we are any less. Like how the quote put it, we think we its only about chocolate or vanilla when in reality someone is bound to want something else. How boring life would have been if we acted like we were all cut from the same cookie dough.

This Valentine's Day, lets take time to appreciate those who love us - not because of what we are, but because of what we are not.

Find Peace in The Cenacle

Sharing the program schedule of the Cenacle Retreat House(59 Nicanor Reyes St. Loyola Heights Quezon City) for the rest of the quarter.

I love this place! It has always offered me (and Hangad) quiet personal time and refuge when sometimes life is just too busy. Sr. Susay Valdes, r.c. Hangad's spiritual director, is part of this congregation (oh and she's a fierce alto too. Check out this video of her singing Power of Your Love with us last Easter). My favorite retreat there ever was the Praying through Music program =) I think a group can get this by request.

To join the programs, call
434-2054 or 434-3064 or email cenacle@zpdee.net

Feb 9-10 COVENANTAL LOVE (Sr. Lily Quintos, r.c.)
The retreat will focus on the “affairs of the heart”- the value of falling in love, relationships and intimacy, how love transforms and affirms from the perspective of covenant.

Feb 16-17 LENTEN RETREAT: Learning, Praying, Loving and Living the “Art of Passing – Over (Sr. Angie Villanueva, r.c.)
Letting go, letting be, letting grow- in the footsteps of Jesus with the Messianic Community.

Feb 23-24 HEALING IN THE HEART OF JESUS (Sr. Malen Java, r.c.)

March 1-2 LENTEN RETREAT : Finding God in the Dark (Sr. Meny Vera Cruz, r.c.)
This weekend retreat invites us to enter the mystery of Lent, that special time when Jesus journeys toward His Passion, Death and Resurrection. With Him, we will look at our own journey, the movement of our own risings and dying and discover, as Jesus did, God’s presence there. There will be a brief inputs and time for prayer, reflection and sharing. We will try to make the Sacrament of Reconciliation available.

Thematic Retreat
This is where a Cenacle Sister or a team gives a presentation on a particular them or topic to a group. Periods of reflection and prayer follow the presentations.

Directed Retreat
This is the complete Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius for 30 days or an adaptation for a shorter period. It is given on a one –on –one basis. A Cenacle Sister plans the retreat with the individual according to personal desires, capacities and needs. The central element of this retreat is the person’s unique experience of God in the framework of prayer.

Guided Retreat
Another adaptation of the Spiritual Exercises. Guidelines and suggestions for prayer are given to the group. The retreatants are individually directed for review and guidance in prayer and discernment.

19th Annotation Retreat
Also known as “the retreat in everyday life” , its name comes from the No. 19 of the Introductory Notes of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. It speaks of how a person wishing to grow in faith can make the Spiritual Exercises outside of the 30-day live-in retreat in the context of one’s daily life. A director accompanies the retreatant by guiding his/her prayer.

The Saddest Vanilla Bean

For a restaurant name as sweet and cute as "Vanilla Bean" (Adamson Center, Leviste St., Salcedo Village), its a sad sad place to eat in. I don't know if its just bad timing but out of the three times I've eaten there, there always seems to be an unhappy scenario. First I witnessed the owner shout at the a waiter for not properly pronouncing the name of a dish. On my second visit, the cashier was barking orders at someone who looked like an OJT because the place wasn't clean. Last Friday, the waitress didn't care much for our order and took it from the counter without going to our table. Tsk tsk tsk. Talk about really unhappy staff =( The food's great though (love the apple pie and the dishes are tasty) but being surrounded by negative energy is enough for you to loose your appetite...but if you're on a diet or practice shadenfreude, then this might just be the place for you.

Be Our Valentine

Hangad will be having a Valentines Concert again this year! And unlike the past Valentine's shows, this one has songs we haven't performed in a looong time... like Sabay who Ihip ng Hangin (last performed during the Hangad A capella launch 2002) and ...well..surpise na lang =) Also for the first time, there will be something else you can take home with you aside from the usual CDs and songbooks. Let's just say its something that creates a statement =) See you there!

February 16, 2008
8pm Eastwood Central Plaza
open to the public

Tupperware Central

For the past couple of weeks I've been struggling to respect people who I sincerely feel don't deserve to be respected. And I don't say this just to be nasty. Nasty really isn't my default (well, not most of the time anyway =p). It's just hard when self-important people impose themselves on you and try to push you around...or push you around behind your back (if there is such a thing). When it gets to their head just how "good" they supposedly are but you don't see it. When they insist or being treated in a special way when they haven't earned the right to be such. I really believe more in doers than in talkers. In results more than process. In inspired insights more than unsolicited answers. It sucks to act civil and nicey-nicey just to get things done but sometimes thats how life really is. Hmm...and because of that last line I realized that I'll never be a politician =p

Thank God for real people, real friends and Hangad!
